Pictures of the functional processor being tested for leaks.

The processor is now functional. I haven't yet made any biodiesel with it but I did put 5 gallons of oil into the system to check for leaks.

Priming the pump was a little tricky, as advertised, but I think I figured out an easy way to get it primed. After it was primed I was very surprised at how well it performed. I thought it would be pretty whimpy but that little $23 pump can really move the liquid!

Here's the method I used to prime the pump:
On the valve comng out of the pump outlet, not the one leading to the top of the processor, I added a hose with a funnel on the end. I clamped the funnel to the side of the cabinet. Then I opened the valve and added oil to the funnel. Once the hose was full I carefully losened the screw on the pump where you are supposed to pour oil to get it primed. I opened the screw enough to let the air in the pump escape. Once oil started coming out of the screw I tighted it back up. Then I closed the valve and removed the hose with the funnel. I opened the valves leading the the fill hose and fired the system up. It worked like a charm.

  • Here's a view of the whole processor. Notice the cabinet I put next to the processor's cabinet. On top is a carboy full of methanol. Once I'm ready to add methoxide to the processor I will run a hose from the carboy to the methoxide inlet hose barb.

In this view you can also see the hose leading from the pump to the top of the processor full of oil. Also notice the processor is all wired up and I added a vent hose on top to run outside. For safety I added the blue strapping you can see around the top of the processor to prevent it from falling over.
